According to a blog posting by Bruce Schneier, carrying a small pet might be a reliable way to avoid the Nude-O-Scopes: http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2011/06/yet_another_way_1.html
I envision the day they say they'll hold the dog for you while you get scanned. Though I'd totally get a whole new dog and pay the fees if it meant I could get my dignity with me at the airport. Just don't tell my wife. Incidentally, does anyone else find it funny that if you enter the word "dignity" into Terrorist Support Agency's "can I bring it" app the response is a laughably sad "Item not found".
Another way is to have children. I've spent hours watching the NoS in various airports, and people with kids are always sent to the WTMD.
Even the parents? My limited experience says one parent is usually sent through NoS, though I've seen this practice at ATL so who knows? Those people are a whole other breed of A.S.S. But, wait a minute, don't we have to rub and probe children because parents will hide drugs on them?
Here's the business opportunity; for $10, passengers rent a small animal from a booth landside, carry it through the checkpoint, and return it to a booth airside. The business operator rescues small dogs, cats, rabbits from death row at the local shelter and gives them a decent life (apart from having to spend all day going through airport security!). Heck, the ASPCA could run this as a way of encouraging animal adoption! Your $10 is refunded if you adopt the animal when you return from your trip. (Thank you, please send 2% of the profits to RadioGirl.) And no, before anyone asks, I don't see it working with small children.
Quote from Barbell: "I envision the day they say they'll hold the dog for you while you get scanned." I doubt that they would even attempt that with my "viscious attack poodle!" He growls at any stranger who tries to touch him (even the vet)... OTOH, once he gets to know you, he'll be your best friend for life (especially if there are treats involved in the relationship)! BTW, RadioGirl, I love your idea! I would gladly pay the $10 to keep my dignity.
Unfortunately, the TSA would but the kibosh on this about 15 minutes after it opened and they saw the pattern.
You think those agents would even realize what was happening? I suppose you could put the BDOs out there, but you know their track record
