This was a prediction made during one of our family dinners not too long ago. Someone must have "overheard" us.

I never took the possibility seriously. I thought that was tin-foil-hat-wearing territory.

It is shocking to realize how ready these people are to discard our political system. What is their agenda?

No offense intended to our TUGger's who wear tin-foil hats, right?

I'm going to get fitted for one right away. I'm thinking it's the new "normal."

Sheesh. Our government has become really cuckoo. What will they dream up next?

I'm not surprised by the overreactions. This was a stupid comment made by one politician. One politician. There's no trend here; there's no one agreeing with her; there's no motion in Congress to take her up on her suggestion. Given how quickly she tried to back peddle on this, it should be intuitively obvious to the casual observer that such an idea would NEVER carry any support.

    Talk about Chicken Littles!

The fact that this congress critter even said this in the first place is what is disturbing. I hope her constituents are smart enought to force her to find another line of work after this next election cycle.

Yeah, but you know what? People don't remember stupid comments like this; or if they do, they don't hold it against them. I agree with you that publicly stating this goes against the grain on every principle this country stands for; however, the harsh reality is that this comment, stupid as it is, is not enough of a show-stopper to cost her re-election. It takes a lot of other things to cost her the job.

By the way, she's a governor. The maximum effective range of her comment is zero.

I would suggest that people in her state think carefully before voting next time.

I don't know a thing about that person. Whether she is dumb or not I don't know, but it was a dumb thing to say. It had zero impact. Shutting down voting in THIS country at any time, especially in these times, would be the best way to provoke civil unrest such as has not been seen in a looooooong long time. Nobody in their right mind would try this. Besides, if you've stacked the deck, then why would you not want to play out the cards?

I wouldn't vote for her again - ever. She's the State Governor. The impact of her fascism is potentially State wide. Fascism is dangerous in a State Governor, as is stupidity or socialism. We've seen it before. We'll see it again if we don't take what people in her position say seriously. As anyone who's ever passed a civics class knows, State Governor is a powerful role.

If Bob McDonnell said anything that bat-stuff crazy, Virginians would tar and feather him, then run him out of Richmond on a rail.

That broad bears watching. What she said suggests she's entirely untrustworthy.

PS: Remember LA during Isabelle? How about AL during the tenure of George Wallace? The Governor's office is no place for the clueless, the fascist or the socialist.

Well, I consider myself a socialist, but then I'm not running for office. :)

Sorry 'bout that. I've got nothing against Socialists, except that I don't want to live under Socialism. A few of them scattered throughout a Democracy do no harm, and often provide balance. When they take over, my kind must seek our opportunities elsewhere.

I read this when it first came out -- it's just a variation of the perennial complaint (unfortunately at least 49% true) that Congress spends so much time getting reelected that they can scarcely accomplish anything. "Suspending elections" is a poor choice of words for a politician, but it's really not that big a deal.

This is not really a big deal, but compound a stupid statement with the fact that our state just went Red in the state legislature (for the first time in over 140 years!), and you have the recipe for a one term governer with a quick walk out. She has also vetoed several bills passed by the legislature, that is not going to help her much either. Folks don't mind a goevernor blackballing a bill here and there, but she has been using the veto left and right since the legislature came into session, that usually makes the public uneasy with them (based on my observations).
