Syracuse: Why are uniforms for TSA made in Mexico?

I find the uproar over the privately funded U.S. Olympic Committee contract with Ralph Lauren to be a typical congressional response. All the comments quoted from our illustrious leaders pertain equally to the U.S. government contract (paid for with our tax dollars) for the foreign-made uniforms worn by the Transportation Security Administration.

As Nancy Pelosi said, “They should be wearing uniforms that are made in America.” TSA uniforms, manufactured in Mexico by VF Imagewear, should be, as Harry Reid said, “Put in a big pile and burn them and start over.”

Why excoriate a private enterprise using private funds over an issue that the government refuses to address about its own contracts?
