The Hill: TSA at issue in Texas GOP Senate primary

A proposal to outlaw airport security pat-downs from the Transportation Security Administration has emerged as an issue in Texas's contentious Republican Senate primary.

Former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz is accusing the state's Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst of being insufficiently conservative, citing in part the state legislature's decision last year to not approve a law that would have made it illegal for TSA agents to perform hand searches at airport security checkpoints unless there was probable cause.

Dewhurst and Cruz are running for the Republican nomination in the race to replace retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas.). As Texas' lieutenant governor, Dewhurst presides over the state's Senate.
Cruz said in a letter to Dewhurst this week that the failure to pass the TSA pat-down ban was one of many missteps Dewhurst has made at the helm of the Texas upper chamber.

"It is a fact that under your leadership, the TSA groping bill did not pass into law and according to at least one senator, you personally solicited the help of a Democrat senator to kill the TSA bill," Cruz wrote to Dewhurst.

I don't know the whole story but it seems Dewhurst had something to do with derailing the Texas TSA bill that had passed the Texas House unanimously (if I remember correctly) and was set to easily pass the Texas Senate.

I'd vote for a pile of dung before casting a vote for Dewhurst.

Cruz is a piece of work as well, but the lesser of two evils .

This is the runoff, correct? How do I vote in it? I've never seen any information on voting in primaries.

Thanks, but that doesn't help much. I AM registered and have been getting ballots - I vote under the military/overseas rules - but not the last primary one nor the runoff.

Guess I'll just hope for a Cruz win. Dealing with county elections at this point is probably futile.

    Sorry that didn't help.

The runoff election will be July 31. I don't know where you are located but if overseas you need to speak with your voting officer. I suspect that overseas locations don't have the time lag needed to do runoffs and such although they should.
If you are in the states an absentee ballot would be needed.

Contact elections@sos.state.tx.us if you have voting questions.

Just an update for the runoff election for Texas Senate candidate.

Early voting begins Monday, July 23, 2012 and runs through Friday, July 27, 2012. Normal Election Day will be Tuesday, July 31, 2012.
Check with your county reps to determine voting locations.
