Seems some 26,000 holders of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) may not be able to use their cards at an electronic reader because they were encoded a digit short. As this blogon the story points out: If they had been using this check system, they would have found the error long before now. But wait, there is even more stupid: They are forcing the truckers and other cardholders to physically return the faulty cards it took so much hassle (required of them) to get. As the blogger notes, TSA shouldn’t care about the old cards, but simply disable them. Folks, you really cannot make this stuff up...
