Which is too bad, because the initial press release includes 32 mug shots of superb quality.

I. LOVE. That. Headline.

The RCC has been associated with pedophilia in the general public consciousness for...what, 10 years now? Longer? My own personal antitheist bias aside, the RCC has been struggling with an image problem over this for quite a while, and continues to do so - if it's gotten better, people either haven't noticed or don't believe it.

That they draw a comparison like that says a lot about how bad TSA is, and hopefully this will grab the attention of a reasonably sizable bunch of formerly-oblivious (or even formerly-AFS) onlookers.

At least the RCC can claim nice organ & choir music as a redeeming factor of its operation. Can you imagine a choral group of TSA barkers? Every dog within 100 miles would be howling in agony.

I'm hoping it'll happen by way of violation of preconceived notions. People who are convinced that the RCC is the worst of the worst with regard to child molestation usually don't constantly re-evaluate their stance on it. It's a passing, fleeting thought of re-confirmation. "Oh, yeah, the church. Such a horrible thing they do to those kids." Usually the only protest they hear is from people involved with the church or otherwise involved in matters pertaining to child abuse in the specific context of the church. For something like this to come along, a totally church-unaffiliated organization being named "even worse" than the church, should hopefully blindside them and give them pause to at least examine the issue more closely. That, in turn, will (again, hopefully) result in them reading some accounts of child molestation by TSA CNANOs (clerks-not-agents-not-officers) and, at the very least, realizing that there is a problem in our airports.

What they decide vis-a-vis the RCC is immaterial in this context, so long as they realize that smurf-clerks have molested kids, continue to be arrested for involvement in sex crimes and child sex crimes, and that (the trickiest part) despite TSA's constant blathering about "the highest standards," the problems go on unabated.

Likelihood is questionable, but like Churchill said in my shiny new sig, "Never give in."

 

However, no data is present to support the assertion in the title of the Fark post. That would be an interesting comparison.

You don't read Fark much, do you? Their headlines are almost purely rhetoric, double-entendre, and silliness.

 

Turns out it's great sensationalism, but TSA comes out smelling like saints compared to the Catholic church.

My first reaction was, "Where's the data?"

 

True. However...

How many children has the TSA in general molested just since the roll-out of the Nude-O-Scopes? I bet they exceed 10,000 weekly. On the number of perpetrators, the RCC comes out well above the TSA. On the number of sheer victims? I don't think it's any contest, since they're continuing to do so every day without so much as a second thought.

 

Same place TSA's data is, smoke and mirrors.

 

The TSA has only been in operation for a decade, Catholic priests have been at this for generations. Just give the TSA some time -- they'll surpass the priests.

 

The reason that this trend among TSA "clerks" is so disturbing is that the "clerks" are wearing what looks like a "law enforcement officer" uniform, giving the impression (for most kids) that they are to be trusted. I would not be surprized to hear of "clerks" using theirt uniform to elicit compliance from their victims...kinda like what they do at the...er...uh...airport "security" (term used in the loosest fashion) checkpoints. Scary, really scary!
