The newscasters are remarkably clueless. Their fellow citizens just had their civil liberties removed at whim on their highways and bus stations by federal goons, and they are all for it. explosives and (mumble mumble drug) sniffing dogs at random.

If those fools did find a bomb truck, the last thing they'd see would be a white flash.

I'm not delusional enough to think this can't happen in Minnesota but if I were selected for a random search I'm prepared to be arrested for reciting the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution if it came to that. Oh btw, I'd have my camera rolling.

Edit to add, DHS propaganda machine has done an excellent job of indoctrinating and scaring the (expletive deleted) out of Americans. Why else would they bend over and take it?

Real purpose of all this is search for drugs, as if the "war on drugs" is worth the constitution.

Sounds to me like another good reason to not visit Nashville again. As if their airport and local police weren't bad enough already.

  11. The quotes in the articles these days are classic.

How about you get your hands out of our pants then? Thanks much.

    5 weigh stations & 2 bus stations ....

I wonder what VIPR did to the people in the Tennessee bus stations, given their infinitely less than stellar record in operations at other transit hubs -- harassing Hispanics in Des Moines, deporting a 16-year-old girl on her way to school in San Diego (had to let her back in on a humanitarian visa the same afternoon), and groping & searching arriving passengers in Savannah (liars denied the incident until video surfaced).

This is their first significant public operation in 3 months. They were observed hanging out at Bay area transit "events" but there was no effort to publicize their involvement there.

This illustrates a major part of the problem. We need to cut off the teat that suckles "Homeland Security" funding to the states. When the cash cow dies, the boys & their toys will go find some other (hopefully more innocuous) way to amuse themselves.

I would expect to see some news accounts filtering out about exactly what they did at the bus stations. It would be interesting to see if they cleaned up their act or not. Five weigh stations and two bus stations in Tennessee. A handful of trucks checked, passengers felt up, out of how many MILLIONS in the US? You've got to be kidding me.

Wow. No terrorist would even DREAM transporting a bomb inside THIS COUNTRY. what a JOKE.

it's both what cartoon peril said (drugs) and getting the American people used to the idea of random stops and frisks and other searches. They expect to have to use this approach to try to control the civil unrest that they obviously expect and fear.

Low hanging fruit. Wait until one of these STASI-esque types kill someone by mistake.

yeah, I hope that doesn't happen. The time for putting up with that is just about over. Folks have less and less to lose these days, probably coming to the realization that they really have nothing to lose.

OTR truck drivers are paid by the mile, not the hour, so anything that wastes time when they could otherwise be behind the wheel is going to affect their paycheck. So the TSA is set angering yet another demographic. I wonder what the CB slang will be for TSA employees that infest the chicken coop.

Of course, the spectre of Timothy McVeigh is trotted out as why this is needed while failing to mention that the type of truck he drove is not required to stop at weigh stations.
