Here's hoping this isn't too late and can do some prospective letter-writers some good.

Also, I'm thinking of sending this to ALL my legislators, both state and federal. I figure that even though my state officials can't abolish TSA outright, they can at least act to rein it in within the confines of Illinois and so should be made aware of this.

If you think that's a waste of time, please let me know, otherwise I'm going to make a minor tweak near the end for a state version and send that off as well.

The above letter is public domain to use, reuse and repurpose as you see fit. I waive all claims of copyright and/or ownership of it and its contents.

Thank you. I'm going to take you up on your offer - and wait to see how long it takes before Menendez sends his stock response.

Quite welcome. I try to post that disclaimer with every letter I write but sometimes it slips my mind. It does apply, though, to every letter I write here - I write these to contribute to TUG and help others fight the good fight against the blue-shirted terrorists at TSA. I'm not out for fame and glory, so keeping tight ownership serves me no purpose here.

Send to as many elected officials as possible. Deluge them.

I've sent it to all of mine to start off this weeks campaign. I also managed to mail it to my governor and lieutenant governor.

    So, I've got:
    -State Senator (1)
    -State Rep (1)
    -U.S. Senators (2)
    -U.S. Rep (1)

    I should tack on:
    State Governor (1)
    State Lt. Gov. (1)

Any others? Some of these may have to be E-mail as I don't want to break the bank on stamps & envelopes, but if there are any important ones I'm missing, let me know. It sucks having to learn the fine art of bitching to politicians on-the-fly while I'm also trying to communicate how big a problem TSA is. We should put together some kind of "Make your voice heard" TUG cheat-sheet for this.

Send to as many people as possible. It can't hurt.

Thanks for the muggie. He looks like he's been eating a few iPads too many.

One of their own local judges gave you a quote you can throw back at them. It's in red on the main forum index. :)

"A lack of leadership at the agency allowed this. Its mission statement – which none of the officers could recall at the trial – is to serve the American public with vigilance, integrity, and professionalism. They displayed none of these. The agency says that integrity is its cornerstone; that its officers are guided by the highest ethical and moral principles. A gang of armed security officers bullied this family – a family who cooperated with the officers to their detriment. Our homeland will not be secure by these rascals. They played agency games, abused the people they are to serve, and violated their oaths to support the Constitution." Judge Lynn N. Hughes, United States District Court, Southern District of Texas , April 2, 2012.

Ahhh, I love that Mike. I'm going to read that comment by the judge, word for word, to one of my reps aides next week. In fact, I'm thinking about making it my new sig!

As long as people keep putting up with this, it will keep happening. Yes, I know I'm a broken record. Doesn't negate the truth of the statement.

The naysayers, the deniers, the clueless -- they all continue to fly and continue to put themselves in a position to be abused. Friends, colleagues, acquaintances all in that mix. I ran out of sympathy long ago.

The up side is that all of the news outlets are carrying this as if it is new. Great to get a reprise of a story that was overlooked. I'll check Drudge and post there if they don't already have it.
