I suspect this is in response to the public underwhelming reaction to the "sequestration" for TSA, as more & more people realize how bloated & overstaffed they are despite declining passenger levels.

Nobody is going to get bent out of shape when a few government-employed child molesters are furloughted.

ABC News: TSA Head: Possible Hiring Freeze Before Sequester Furlough

We’ve heard the doomsday scenarios of how automatic spending cuts from the sequester might impact airports: Travel Security Administration (TSA) workers could be furloughed, stretching security resources thin and leading to nightmarish lines and long waits at airport security checkpoints.

But the head of the TSA offered a glimmer of hope today, testifying on Capitol Hill that the agency might look to a hiring freeze before furloughs if the sequester goes into effect.

“The bottom line is, for us: We have been watching the whole sequester discussion closely and assessing what impact it will have for us,” TSA head John Pistole told the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security today. “We’re doing other things before furloughing, so for example, we would look at a hiring freeze.”

We could apply for the TSA position of standing around texting on our phones without doing any actual work. Of course I would have to learn how to text first........

Any of the Thousand Standing Arounds could show you how. Probably also teach you the most effective way to be a Checkpoint Thief, and how to get your jollies when fondling children. TSA clerks are expert at such things.

TSA: Hiring freeze could double checkpoint waits

Pistole must have one great crystal ball if he knew to stop training air marshals as far back as September 2011. Either a wrong date or something else is up in the FAM program. Has someone decided that FAM's are not a cost effective means of providing security?

I maintain that the talk from the administration and its flunkies is nothing more than fearmongering and attempts to influence citizens.

Why is it the TSA needs more screeners when there are fewer people flying?

I mean, I know the caliber of TSA employee has consistently dropped since two weeks after the inception of the TSA, and then the slope on that graph rolled off the table after the Nude-O-Scopes and gate rapes started and every TSA employee with any honor, conscience, or ethics left, but do they really need 30% more employees with 20% fewer flyers?

The Obama administration is using the budget battle in an attempt to force his goal of taking all available income as taxes to finance is socialist agenda. In doing that he is using government agencies such as TSA, with the full cooperation of Pistole, to carry out his plan and the citizens of this country will be the ones to suffer regardless of the outcome. We can already see that no attempt to eliminate wasteful spending by government is going to happen so all I can suggests is to plan accordingly. If you are traveling by air know that intentional work slowdowns by TSA drones will be the order of the day.

It is the oldest trick in the book in government budget battles. If there isn't enough money and you want to raise taxes, you don't fire your cousins in the back office who do nothing all day, you sell the fire truck to properly message the masses.

Used to be you could shoot the asshat trying to sell the firetruck, but these days that would just get you called a terrorist, like the guy who made his own silver coins.

In the old days that was called "treason" and the perps were hanged, drawn & quartered (the latter two steps started while the perp was still alive and conscious); female counterfeiters were burned at the stake to preserve their modesty (those kindly Brits thought of everything :) ).

It's only counterfeiting if manufacturing facsimiles. The "Liberty Dollars" et al are not counterfeits.

But treason included anything that undermined the King's treasury.

...in the old days. Today, the definition doesn't apply. It very well may in the next year or two, depending on how King Obama deals with it.
