TSA Set to Expand Fifth Amendment Violations

So, on September 16, 2011, the House Committee on Homeland Security's Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigation, and Management held a hearing at BOS regarding the BDO "friendly chat" program, whereby a passenger attempting to enter the "sterile" area might be directed for additional screening. What this TSAspeak says to me is that you won't get a chance to avoid additional screening, as it is always random. It also says to me that making your interrogator happy won't preclude you from NoS or "requesting" a groping instead. What it says to me is that everyone will be sent through the NoS. People the BD"o" don't like will get more.

    Awesome. :td:

It's too late for me to read through the GAO report (.pdf) tonight, but this little nugget makes me want to :td::

These jack*sses continue to string up their own noose. I'd like to know on what measure of success they are expanding this DOA approach. Wait for it, wait for it......that's it! They want to prevent any more Shoshana Hebshi's from getting on board and causing them embarrassment....

Expand it to what, all the airports in the country? The TSA has always planned to expand the program, but they had to go through their dance of have a "pilot program" in order to try to pull the wool over our eyes first.

The last I heard, very few people had been arrested because of this program, for drugs and for being illegal, and still not one terrorist has been found.

Unfortunately, I think the only noose out there is the one tightening against us.

These constant, incremental incursions on our rights (and bodies, and space) were predictable, and will only get worse. There isn't enough opposition to them, not now and not in the foreseeable future. There might be someday, but not anytime soon. Every time someone says there's a tipping point -- and I cannot count how many times I've read that in the past 12 months -- it always turns out to be not a tipping point at all; just a brief outcry from a few quarters, and nothing changes. Except to get worse.

(expletive deleted) "chat-downs" that do nothing to preclude the now-accepted gropes, detention without cause, only on the say-so of vindictive agents, VIPR teams crawling all over the country, "pat-downs" now being implemented at stadiums -- more and more and more intrusion into our lives. We are on a very dark path.

Last night I was talking to my brother, who lives in the sh*t happens category.

I told him I was going to get my pilot's license so I could wear my shoes and take as much water as I wanted. I tried to make it light because he seriously thinks I live my life in unhinged mode. His response? "You're just like Mom. You get on this one thing, and you never let it go. Why don't you just go through? It's a joke. Everyone knows it's a joke. Just do it and move on."

And, that, is I think the prevailing sentiment in the country. It's a joke. Everyone knows it's a joke. Just do it and get it over with.

    Ugh.

Cannot tell you how many people in my life have told me precisely that.

I'm sick of being courteous and diplomatic to them. They're sheep.

Of course. But no amount of scientific research or common sense will matter. That's why it's important that we continue to call the BDO program voodoo and other contemptuous terms. Don't let them use the language they want. And especially don't let them appropriate scientific nomenclature. Besides being an insult to science, it tries to reinforce the respectability of this approach. This approach is sh*t. It's garbage. Let's keep hammering away at that.

Wonder how the BDO's will treat distain and disgust when/if they select me for additional screening because that's what they see every time I enter security queues.

TSA is already at the bus and train stations. Look to them soon to be armed with tasers soon. Then we'll see how much of a joke this is.

The excuse to go full kimono and put the police state out in full force and in the sight of everyone could well arise from the approaching scenario of major unrest in the cities due to worsening economics, not even the larger collapse some are expecting. The rioters will be from the underclasses; the other classes will then support the "light of day" type police state moves because those classes, middle and upper, think the police state measures will be limited to the folks doing the rioting. If someone else has to pay for my safety, then I'm all for it. After all, I've nothing to hide and am doing nothing illegal....

Look what Britain did in the wake of the London rioting. Look what it did in the wake of its subway bombings (summary executions: shoot to kill, resulting in at least one cold blooded murder of a young Brasilean subway rider). When stresses like this occur, the government will take extreme measures and will find support.

Unfortunately, nachtnebel is right. Another reason why I keep saying we're on a very dark path.

(And I'm one of those people who believes a total economic collapse is coming.)

What these AFSer morons don't get is that the fact that it's a joke is the whole reason we shouldn't just do it and get it over with.

Amen, and its sad the slope is being greased with the blood of innocents.

Umm considering the number of states with CHLs that would be more likely for a smurf to end with an or multple GSWs for threatening to taze a person. I dont fear a tazer as I have been zapped more then a few times and Its not wise to bring a knife to a gun fight. Then not to mention use of tasers triples a organizations liability exposure and lawsuits, then the smurfs would be more likely to taze themselves in the process.

I would to but i would also offer to remove the prongs as i have the prong removal tool that Tazer International gives out to PD/FD/EMS personel. Just no promises that it wont remove a large chunk of flesh in the process.... then again the old grip and rip would be more appropriate.

I'm thinking that should I have the pleasure of a TSA inquisition I may engage in a bit of button holing that I learned years ago when in a sales role. Basically it involves ending each answer with one or more questions, preferably aimed at the person so they feel obliged to respond. Could be anything, such as "how long have you been in this job", "have you ever been to xxx", "know of a good place in concourse D to eat", etc.

If your trying to salvage or prolong a sales call the idea usually is to prolong the interaction to set up another visit. In this case it will probably disrupt the inquisitor and shorten the encounter. If not it will tie things up further and make for more complaints.
