TSA ends testing of unattended luggage

Passengers out of Bob Hope can look forward to inevitable Newark-like delays as the bomb squad will be called in for routine terminal swabbing duty, except Burbank doesn't have a bomb squad.
    Don't ask, don't swab:
    Any theories on this one?

Beat me by 5 minutes -- a guy just can't make this stuff up fast enough.

TSA spends spends all day swabbing grannies and smelling their pads but can't be bothered to test something that might be reasonably suspected of containing explosives. If any one thing confirms that TSA all about theater and nothing but theater, this is it. At a large airport, they have the equipment needed to perform this test situated at a number of locations throughout the facility but are flatly refusing to be of any assistance.

What the (expletive deleted) good are they? Get these useless bozos replaced by private contractors yesterday!

Not part of the job description, is it?
What a cluster. Your dollars at w---- or not even.

So I am more dangerous than unattended baggage, that is much more likely than I am to have an explosive?

Just more proof they're a bunch of chicken (expletive deleted) bullies...and what's all this bs about feeling "intimidated and uncomfortable" having to say no to the police. I wish they had this same level of "concern" when directed to perform their perverse actions on four-year olds and ninety-four year olds.

I've never been to an airport where TSA swabbed unattended baggage found by cops. We'd only do it if we found it. I guess it was local to that airport.

So what's the point of having smurfs wandering around terminals if they are not prepared to deal with or to assist in dealing security situations that are present?

Dear God, please replace or get rid of these useless people.

I'm pretty sure airport LEO's have always dealt with unattended bags outside the checkpoint, regardless of the existence of TSA.

  9. Ciarin -- Why shouldn't the TSA run swabs of unattended bags? Is there a good reason? Some screeners seem to love swabbing. Last time I went through a checkpoint they were all running around with swabs like it was their favorite thing they got to do all day.

So....we don't need the TSA then since we already have the airport LEO....

So exactly what is left for these slugs to do other than traumatize children and humiliate elderly pax?

Perhaps, but it would be exponentially more expensive and would probably be the equivalent of turning a cop into a meter maid.

How is that any different from the TSA's predilection for turning actual law enforcement officers into kindergarten playground monitors any time one of the blue-shirted morons gets a wild hair up their (expletive deleted) about being on camera?

Seems the people with the tools to swab a bag would be on the hook to do so when needed. This is just more of TSA not doing any real security, like not screening airport workers, not fully screening cargo, not requiring background checks to be completed prior to giving airport workers credentials and the list just goes on and on. Yet they have all the time in the world to abuse children, elderly, and those with any kind of handicap.

TSA is a threat to my safety due to the incompetent leadership within TSA.

Not just the incompetent leadership, but the incompetents carrying out the stupid orders from that leadership.

I can think of a few differences, lol.

Then by all means, tell us what you think those differences are. Unless of course you want to fall back on the classic TSA argument of "I know more than you do about this, but I can't tell you because it is Super Secret Inanity," which any rational person reads as "You're making up (expletive deleted) and have nothing to back it up."

What's wrong with you, Fisher1949? You should know the answer to that question...it's so obvious: They have to run around "testing" beverages that passengers have purchased on the sterile side to make sure they aren't drinking those dreaded liquid explosives. Duh! ;)

Oh yes, I forgot. Those deadly potions served by Starbucks in the gate areas. Thank goodness I'm safe from the risk of being over caffeinated.
