Sublimation! Finally, weeks later it comes to me:

    ;) ;)

Good to note. But the checkpoint cadre in no way would ever be "judge, police officer, soldier, or surgeon." They're thugs and bullies, nothing more.

Didn't one of the "regular" blueshirts on The Other Site once claim that one of the screeners actively working his checkpoint was a former federal judge or some other such utter (expletive deleted)?

I thought that was on this site? Anyway. Whatever.

Judge, cop, soldier, engineer, carpenter, hairdresser, car mechanic, chemist, interior designer -- put people in positions of unlimited power and they will abuse that power. Even "normal" people. Even "ordinary" people. Even people who wouldn't otherwise behave that way.

That's why I think it's important that we don't categorize TSA employees as "congenital sociopaths" or whatever. Sure, some of them are. But that's true in any walk of life. The point is that this position of absolute power causes most -- not all -- people to behave in abusive ways. This makes the TSA more dangerous, not less.

That was originally on the "other site", although it's been mentioned here a few times. It's one of those memorable moments of stupidity which never seems to be in short supply at TSA.
