    I'm not sure what the problem is. Somehow, it seems better to pay him 75% to just stay home doing nothing useful than to pay the full salary for him to go to work harassing people at the airport while pretending to do something useful and important.

    The 75% probably works out better -- long-term disability is tax-free.

    This bozo got the best of both.

    I see your point but I'm adverse in the pocketbook (as well as in principle) to pay someone to NOT do something. On my crew at work, if someone is that obtuse or manipulative, I can ALWAYS find a job that sucks more (there's always a broom to be pushed. :)

    Oh, I agree completely with that - but if the dichotomy is presented as a jobs program where we're going to be paying people who'd otherwise be "working" for the TSA no matter what they really end up doing, I'd be happier to pay them a lesser amount to sit there and do absolutely nothing than to pretend to be doing something useful while harassing the public to no good end.

    I understand what you were saying. I just don't believe in paying off parasites or deadbeats.

    But if we want to talk work programs, there's still plenty out there that have these people do something useful-ish rather than just collect money regardless the amount.
    Pushing brooms, dig a hole, picking up nails, sort plastic/glass from garbage...

    I suppose it's the way my family was raised. We all had to have a serious (and honest) job after the first year in college. If we were smart enough to get/earn a good job then that only benefited us in the long run. Our family would help us get the skills and tools to get a good job but there was no loafing around or weekly allowances.
    There was no I'll-pay-you-to-not-smoke-pot or I'll-pay-you-to-stay-out-of-jail.

    Very, very much agreed. Of course, that's the entirety of the TSA workforce.

    BTW disability/workmans comp in Texas SUCKS donkey balls, so this guy wasn't making that good of money...still a dirtbag that should rot in jail.

    Trust me I speak from experience, after I hurt my back on the job (herniated and tore a disc in my low back). At the time i was make in the ballpark of $1500-2000 a week with the overtime i was working. Well TWC calculates your benefit of 70% of your pay from the 13 weeks before your injury to a max of $773 a week (with 3% annual increase). Then if you are listed as a disabled either from statue or medical MI (Medical improvement) the calculation is % based and is 70% of your weekly benefits to max of $541 a week. Needless to say the year it took me to get back to work it cost me 100K+ between work and other things I do on the side.

    Then don't even get me started on the treatment "approval process" and Designated Doctor Evals (these people whore out there medical license IMHO) as Ill blow a gasket.
