Good to see somebody in the press casting a jaundiced eye at the so-called trusted traveler program: TSA's fast lane may offer relief, but at a price Critics say trusted traveler program may create more problems than it solve By The Virginian-Pilot(Norfolk, VA.)
I have to admit that since I refuse to fly, I've not paid much attention to this issue, other than to be concerned about the amount of information those who wish to participate have to give up to the government. The article says that "trusted travelers" won't have to submit to WBI and/or gropes. Is that correct?
Absolutely not correct. "Trusted" travelers will still be subject to anything and everything the TSA dictates, including WBI and gropes. Pistole made this clear in several interviews. It is now and ever up to the whim of TSA agents.
And we all know how trustworthy they can be. I fear the trusted traveler program will only serve as a taunt in the face of many TSO's and actually make screening worse for those "elitists". I'll be very interested in hearing first reports from the program. My money is on additional punitive screening for those "trusted travelers"
Two problems here with "Trusted Traveler" 1) They don't trust anybody. 2) What keeps a terrorist from becoming a "Trusted Traveler"?
IIRC, Pissy said that the "trusted travelers" will be able to keep shoes on and laptops in bags. I don't care about the laptop, but I'm shocked that they're making people pay for something that we should all be allowed to do.
Why are you shocked? This doesn't surprize me in the least. It is the type of (warped) reasoning that I've come to expect from the TSA.
Will the Trusted Travelers still have to take part in the Behavior Detection voodoo questioning to avoid a secondary? Probably, so the whole exercise is just a waste of time. Thanx, but I'll keep my personal information personal, so you Trained Document Checkers have fun with my passport card.
