A Florida family traveling from Israel to US caught with veggies in one of the kids backpacks. A tomato, apple & 3 cucumbers which the mother said was snack food, was inadvertently or deliberately, who knows, overlooked by the parents upon arrival to Newark International. Anyway, they were caught and fined $300 by CBP. Seems like an over-reaction to me but then why am I not surprised?
Those $300 fines are like beating people until the morale improves. Welcome home, serfs. Once we get TSA fixed or disappeared, TUG's next major area of focus likely will be immigration & border controls.
Lucky they did not try it here - an on-the-spot fine of $220 or a prosecution and fine of up to $66,000 (that is correct)... And despite announcements on every in-bound flight, people still try. http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/travel/entering-australia/cant-take
