    Non-violent protesters are locked up -- in sensory-deprivation cells, no less -- while someone who beats the (expletive deleted) out of a guy with a baseball bat goes free on bail. And then, of course, commits another crime.

    Meanwhile, you can't carry a backpack in Charlotte or Tampa without risking being arrested. You can't photograph cops without risking being arrested (or beat up). You can't feed homeless people without risking being arrested. You can't protect yourself or your children from assault without risking being arrested. You can't expose war crimes or corruption without risking being arrested and locked up for the rest of your life.

    This is the USA. This is justice in the land of the free.

    Oh, sorry, I forgot. I'm supposed to be "optimistic"! Gosh, why am I such a downer?

    To quote a good friend of mine (who has a Ph.D.): "In America we have the finest criminal justice system that money can buy."
