I don't see any comments to that article, do you have to have an account and be logged in?

I see 24 comments. All through Facebook; apparently, that's the only way you can register and comment, which leaves me out.

The problem is that it's not TSA that charged her, and it won't be TSA that prosecutes the case. Remember, TSA claims it is not a law enforcement agency.

Now, all that said, there is, of course, a lot of political pressure behind the scenes. And Lisa's right, if they don't make an example of this woman, and I think they will, then turnabout is going to become a lot more common. I've said previously that one of TSA's biggest advantages at the checkpoint is that, even if traveling with others, once in the checkpoint environment they have, consciously or not, designed an environment that forces us to go through the process alone. People on the verge of acting out don't because they don't want to be the nail that gets hammered back down.

They have to make an example of her, otherwise more people are going to become emboldened, and let's not underestimate the unhinged members of our society who still live and work among us.

And when they do, this whole thing becomes a national debate, right before the next elections cycle.

Ok, I see them now. I may have my adblock or noscript settings too high on my other computer where I didn't see them.

For some reason I'm allowed to see that page, whereas I couldn't see the other one. Here's a comment someone there posted:

I tried to comment, but couldn't figure out how to do so even after logging on to FB. Guess that's what comes from being an old muggle.

Here's what I just submitted to Bill Montgomery via the Maricopa County link:

    Dear Mr. Montgomery:

As a journalist who has been covering TSA abuse for the past 18 months, and a lifelong advocate of non-violence, I am urging you to drop all charges against Yukari Mihamae (Miyamae).

My understanding is that Ms. Mihamae had already endured repeated gropes by TSA agents in the past, and finally snapped. While I don't advocate physical confrontation, I can understand how this happened and I sympathize with Mihamae.

If this comes to trial, I don't believe there's a jury in the country that would vote to convict.

This is a critical civil liberties issue. TSA abuse is rampant. Incidents aren't few and far between, and they aren't minor. I've compiled just the ones that have received a modicum of publicity in a document that stands at over 40 pages. You can see it at this link:

It seems to me those incidents are what law enforcement should be investigating, not Yukari Mihamae.

    Respectfully,
    Lisa Simeone

Authoritarians never realize when they've pushed people to the wall. They think they have to get tougher and tougher, nastier and nastier, until their victims are totally cowed. Authoritarians don't realize that anyone will fight - if cornered.

The tighter they "crack down", the more cornered their victims feel. The TSA will probably "make an example" of this woman. This decision will only increase tensions.

We're lucky the TSA is so dysfunctional. They will sow the seeds of their own destruction.

They convinced a 61 year old professional lady of Japanese descent to lose control and lash out physically? That's quite a feat. Credit where credit is due: when has anyone else ever accomplished that?

Can someone on FB do me the favor of going to the Acquit page and posting my letter with my name/address (see above) to Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery? Celtic Whisper did it for me on the other Yukari Mihamae FB page, the one that says "support." This is a different one, and CW might not see this message. Many thanks.

Lisa, can you edit it down to 420 characters - or shall I enter it in several different segments?

So, I posted the letter to Montgomery on the Acquit page, and Lisa's "I'm Lisa Simeone and I approve of this effort" message on the Free page. Did you want any cross-posting so both messages are on both pages or should we leave it as-is? Both link back to this thread and so people who scroll enough will see it all anyway.

    Awesome effort!
Here's someone else who's not with the program. http://karendecoster.com/do-not-do-unto-the-tsa-as-they-do-unto-you.html:
"The TSA’s wuss henchmen and strapping, corn-fed females can molest, grope, grab, torment, harass, and assault you as they please, under the guise of preserving your life, and this nation of sheep stands idly by and yields to the intimidation and humiliation. But dare to touch the breast of a TSA agent, and you are immediately arrested for sexual abuse."
