The horse is out of the barn. I think we will begin to see more and more reports, maybe not exactly like this, but certainly of people being abused by the TSA at checkpoints.

I can only budget for fan club pages for a couple more. :D

I'm thinking of putting up a "Heroes of the Underground" column in the sidebar beneath the Twitter feed. Thus far we would have Andrea, Yakuri & the "Don't Touch My Junk" guy.

From defense lawyer Mark Bennett, at his blog:

    Author: Mark Bennett
    Comment:
Unfortunately, since a Class 1 Misdemeanor has a maximum punishment of six months in jail, Ms. Miyamae would not be constitutionally entitled to a jury trial.

Sure, a lawyer could plead her guilty to sex abuse, but unless she admitted sexual intent on tape or on paper I don't envision that happening.

Unless Ms. Miyamae is determined to stand on principle (I hope she is), I'll bet the case gets pled down to a class 3 misdemeanor assault.

In the video of the arraignment the judge threw out the sexual intent, if I'm not mistaken. (I think she also interpreted the judge as allowing her to pass by TSA unmolested, but assume she has learned otherwise by now...):td:

You know, I'm dying to know how her second trip through PHX went on her eventual way home.

I hope she wasn't recognized and targeted. Some of the clerks at PHX are downright vengeful and nasty. Checkpoints A and D (mostly A) are among the worst. B and C could usually care less.

Phoenix is where they made a point of making it very difficult for the breast-milk mother the next time she was screened there with breast milk.

    Good point.

Though I believe that was Terminal 2 (UA, CO, AS), and this was Terminal 4 (US, WN).

Either way, PHX TSA is horrendous.

I also wonder what the poor woman will do now since she had been traveling 3 days a week according to neighbors. How can she continue to do that, knowing not only that she'll be recognized but that she might have to continue getting groped? I can't believe what's going on in this country.

I'm not sure what the glitch was (maybe the "gubmint" is messing with us :D ) but my initial attempt to register "http://www.yukarimiyamae.org" failed, and the support team at the ISP were also unable to register it, so we had to log a support ticket with the registrar & wait.

"http://www.yukarimiyamae.org" is now up & running. I also set up half a dozen similar domains (including the "mihamae" misspelling of her name) that redirect to "http://www.yukarimiyamae.org".

If anyone notices any avenue for donating towards her legal defense (ditto for Andrea Abbott in Nashville) please point it out to me ASAP so I can get it on the web pages.

Her # of Facebook likes is now at 1838 -- up about 1450 since this morning!

has a link to the link I posted yesterday re: said fund but still no way to donate.

Once her lawyer, Judd Golden, makes a statement, I'm sure we'll be able to contribute to her defense fund. I'm guessing that he'll set up an official one (the lawyers around here can speak to that?).

It was her lawyer who posted the info, however.

I've got to be honest, it's a little frustrating when her attorney posts to donate, and doesn't add the link.

For those interested, and able, it appears that the official defense fund link is active. It is Paypal, and is not Facebook so anyone can access it. It is also the link that Doober posted upthread.

    Support Yukari Miyamae's Defense

AND for those keeping track, she now has just over 2,600 Facebook fans. The Convict Yukari Miyamae :td: page has 19, and most of those are people who signed up to blast that group, so it's closer to like 3 or 4. Yeah, TSA is winning hearts and minds.

Which FB page is this? I have 3 FB pages open and don't see the reference to CNN. I just want to make sure I'm reading the most frequent pages for her.

It's tough to keep up, jtodd! Let me go look, BRB...

OK, sorry, there is both a lot of activity on the 2 pages I follow, and I'm busier than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest keeping up with the idiocy on the "open" one. If you go to the Acquit Yukari Miyamae page, that's the one labeled "Community" as opposed to Free Yukari Miyamae, with is labeled "Group", it was posted "About an hour ago", so see if you can find it. I'll avoid posting that individual's name in a public forum.

Either way, a good idea to follow the link I posted and nominate her as "Protecting the Powerless". There are some freeform boxes to populate. Just speak your mind.

CNN wants an E-mail address or phone number for Miyamae in order to nominate her. Anybody got one to use?

I would use something from Judd Golden's office, or the Colorado branch of the ACLU, for whom he also does work.
