The Computer History Museum in Sunnyvale has a working copy of the Baggage Difference Engine. Babbage himself was never able to get one function properly -- manufacturing methods in the early 1800's couldn't meet the tolerances that were required.

CHM had it fired up for a demo as we were arriving for the PLATO @ 50 conference a couple years ago. It was pretty impressive!

Some years ago I had the opportunity to attend a presentation given by Admiral Grace Hopper and later that day was able to sit down and have lunch with her. Her talk was engaging but having lunch with the Admiral where she could relax and talk of the many things in her life was a real treat.
